He went in on Tuesday for a simple procedure: removal of a kidney stone. The procedure was supposed to take about 2 hours. It turned into an 8-hour operation, taking two doctors!

Apparently when they went in to get the stone, his ureter tore. They had to make a 6 inch incision into his back to get to it and repair it. He spent the night in ICU on a ventilator and about a million tubes. Needless to say, when he “came to” around 5 am the next morning, he was very confused and unhappy.

He is still in the hospital, on a morphine drip and in serious pain. He had me call our family doctor and is demanding a new surgeon to remove the other kidney (the one with the tumors). He thinks that the doctor messed up and doesn’t want him touching him again. I don’t blame him!

Poor guy

I’ve been running back and forth to the hospital (it’s an hour away from home) and running around with our 7-year old, trying to keep some semblance of normalcy. It hasn’t been easy!

I’m feeling a bit stressed but can handle it…there are a lot of church friends and school friends willing to help out with our son  and I finally got hold of his best friend (he’s been on vacation all month!) tonight and he’s going up to see him tomorrow.
