Musings about my Tio’s funeral

Wow.  I’ve never seen so many KC Royals outfits outside of the stadium!

My Tio (Uncle) Jesus was a HUGE KC Royals fan.  He went to numerous games throughout his 80+ year lifetime.  I remember 1978 going to opening day – it was like -10 degrees but we were all there in Royal-blue, yelling and cheering for our team.

Well, in his honor, ALL of his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren wore KC Royals shirts to his wake and rosary.  My dear Tio himself was dressed in HIS own KC Royals uniform shirt.  And his KC Royals ballcap was buried alongside of him.

I know some people will think that strange and maybe even disrespectful but it was totally appropriate for my Tio!

We had a wonderful wake and rosary for him….the mass the next morning was beautiful.  Lots of tears and laughter were shared.

My uncle was much loved.  He left behind three daughters, three sons, sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews (including me!) and many many who loved him.

It was so sad to sit in the same church where we had just buried my aunt, his beloved wife, six months prior.  I knew (and we all knew) that he wouldn’t last long without her by his side……….they were married 59 years!

Adios, tio……
