5 Minute Friday: ORDINARY

March 1, 2013 at 8:03 am | Posted in 5 Minute Friday | Leave a comment

It’s Friday; I missed doing last week’s 5 Minute Friday but I’m here today.

Here are the rules:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

5-minute-friday-1This week’s word is ORDINARY.

GO:

Ordinary.  When I first saw the word I thought of BORING.  Who wants to be ordinary?

Hmm.  Maybe I do.  Who wants to be different, who wants the world to notice them and stare and glare at them?  Celebrities do.  I’d rather not have people diving into my business uninvited.

Now that sounds like an oxymoron for a BLOGGER, doesn’t it?  I don’t want people reading my life and yet here I sit, throwing it out for the world to see.  Doesn’t make much sense, does it?  Well, life doesn’t make much sense sometimes either.

Ordinary is good; boring is good.  I read a lot and love to read fiction about the Amish.  To me, they are very nicely ordinary.  I have daydreams of turning Amish and leaving this electronic and rushed and harried world behind….to live in a world where nobody is special, nobody is put on pedastals, people don’t expect too much beyond what’s normal and ordinary.

People who put each other on pedastals are sorely disappointed when their idols fall.  And people do fall.  Fail and fall.  Me, I don’t want a pedastal unless it’s very flat and close to the ground and says, “she’s pretty ordinary, a wife and mom; a daughter and aunt; a cousin and niece.  she cares about people.  she’s not found the cure for cancer nor the cure for diabetes; she just plays around in life, loving God and her people that live around her.  she can’t even cook great; sometimes she makes herself laugh at her own efforts.”

Ordinary sounds pretty darned good to me.

STOP.
