It’s another stinking hot day in the Ozarks. We are heading for the pool around noon and will hang out for a few hours. Then at 4:30, my hair will make a disappearing act. I am getting it CHOPPED OFF. It’s too hot to mess with. It’s not too long but it’s wild. Maybe, Melissa will be able to talk me out of chopping it off, if she can style it pretty for me?
Yesterday we didn’t make it to the pool. Today we are Definitely Going to Swim.
Last night was the PCCW Meeting. Barbara made an excellent-looking beef that they served on hoagie buns. Then, Geri made a wonderful tasting Chinese noodle salad, Rita brought some cherry salsa and chips (YUMMY), Marilyn brought tomatoes, Mary brought potato chips, and Phyllis made a delicious fruit pizza. I loved the fruit. Couldn’t eat the sugar cookie crust, but I ate the fruit LOL
It was nice to eat and hang out with the ladies. Next month, our group is hosting the Region II General meeting. That will be a lot of work, but it will be fun, too. I get to be an altar server again. I did it two years ago with Michelle and this time I’ll get to do it with Barbara.
I’ve already typed up the minutes for the meeting and should call Doris to see if she wants them………….
I haven’t blogged since Friday. Things have been fine, not too busy, not sure why I haven’t blogged……..
Today I am cleaning bathrooms; they need a super good scrub. It’s hard to keep STRIPEY out of the tub while scrubbing it though LOL Thankfully I’m using a natural product to clean the tub so it won’t harm him if he falls in. Goofy kitten. Right now, I’m taking a break but will soon go back upstairs to scrub the rest of the master bath and then the hallway bathroom. I’m sitting here sweating LOL
Went to the pool yesterday. After church, on the way home, the temp at the real estate office said 102 and I’m sure it got HOTTER. Were there two hours then came home and
demanded asked dh to take us out for supper. Went to the family restaurant and had a fruit plate with chicken salad. Couldn’t eat the chicken salad….picked at it. Ate the watermelon and strawberries, though, YUMMY!
Tonight is a PCCW Meeting; Doris asked me to take minutes since the secretary for our group is out of town. They are providing dinner: Beef sandwiches, veggies and a fruit pizza for dessert. I’m going to have to stop at the store for some pre-cut fruit for myself. Can’t have a beef sandwich yet or veggies; the pizza will probably have a lot of sweet cream cheese on it, which is a no-no.
Okay, off to the Friends Page.
Yesterday was a HUGE success. I’m not sure how much money we made at the Salad Luncheon Extravaganza, but it is a LOT! We had people outside the door before 11:00 am and things didn’t slow down until almost 1:00 pm. The only problem we had was that the refrigerator truck had struggles (it died and needed a new part!) and didn’t arrive in time for us to load up our salads – some of them sat out for a bit – we ran out of room in our two refrigerators. But the salads were all so so delicious and everyone loved them. And of course, the brownies and cookies were great too LOL
I’m exhausted. My whole body aches, from the running around I guess? My feet and ankles and knees hurt. We finally got finished cleaning up around 3:00 pm, just in time for ds to get out of school….we came straight home and I snoozed on the couch….called dh and said, “Please bring home McDonald’s, I can’t move to cook!”
Thankfully he did! After eating dinner, I rested on the couch until bedtime. I think I was asleep five minutes after I hit the pillow LOL
Today I’m going to have to get together with the PCCW Pres to count the money and make a deposit. There is more money to come in, two ladies told me they had checks to give me this weekend.
Okay, off to check my email!
Tomorrow is our Salad Luncheon Extravaganza at our church. I’ll be there at 7:30 am until probably close to 3:00 pm. It’s going to be a LOOOOONNNNGGGG day, but it’ll be fun and worthwhile. This year, our PCCW has decided that we will donate 10% of our proceeds to the local Children’s Advocacy Center. Hmmm, last year we made close to $1,200.00 and this year promises to bring in a lot of people! The gal in charge of publicity mailed flyers to over 120 businesses in town (all Chamber of Commerce members). Hopefully, we’ll have enough salads, brownies and cookies LOL
Today was a lazy day. I took a nap in the morning and then played around on the computer for a while. Then picked up ds from school, went to the YMCA (rode almost 7 miles on the recumbant bicycle!) and then went to the grocery store for salad fixings. Went home and started working on one salad, when dh called and said that the tornado sirens were blaring, he was in a “safety zone” at work, and that me and ds need to get to the basement. Well, SHOOT! I hate tornadoes…..I went downstairs and asked ds to put the tv on a local station and then we watched to see what was going on. The worst storm was south of here, but there was dark red in our area, too. We sat and watched, ds cuddled up with me (he hates tornadoes), until the all-clear was given. Then dh called and said let’s meet for dinner. No argument from me!
Anyway, tonight at 7:00 pm we are meeting at the church hall to put out tables and chairs and to decorate. Then I’ll go home and finish making my two salads!
It’s been a nice morning.
I worked in the school library this morning, but not this afternoon. I decided to come here instead and do some research. Apparently, there’s a law in my state against bullying and I want to research it and see what it says.
While I was in the library, the principal came in to tell me that she spoke with the children (all from K-6) this morning at Morning Prayer about the bullying and harassments that have been going on. She told me that they role-played a couple of situations and discussed feelings and how to stop someone from bothering another one. Her idea of helping the issue is having the children police each other and tell each other when someone is being cruel or whatever. Nice thought, but I still feel that it’s the administration’s place to stop the bullying and not the childrens’ themselves. And she also told me that one of the police officers in town will be coming into my son’s class next Wednesday to speak to the children about bullying and how to handle it. She seemed pretty pleased with herself. Still showed no signs of empathy, which breaks my heart. I was polite to her and all that…..didn’t snub her or ignore her…..
We had a “Healing Mass” this morning at church and it was very nice. We had a nice crowd; mainly elderly people with a few people my age (46!) or so…..and a handful of younger ones. Afterwards, the PCCW provided a free luncheon (mac and cheese, tomato soup, salads and desserts, since it’s Friday there was no meat). I helped clean up afterwards. I’m helping next Saturday before the Easter Vigil Mass. We always serve approximately 150 people at around 10:00 pm. My job is to prepare the hams and toss them into the oven. For two years straight, I ran the meal and it was a lot of work. Last year I helped with the hams, then left. This year I’m doing the same. I’m not spending the night at church doing everything like usual. Part of me feels guilty and part of me doesn’t. I have to know when to say no.
Okay, off to check on the laws. Time for Google!
Well, I’m still here.
Still frustrated over yesterday but I will survive.
Last night’s HAN BURGERS were delicious. Daniel ate all of his. My dh couldn’t finish his; he’s started on Byetta (10 mcg) and it totally upset his stomach. He stayed home sick today.
Hmmm, wonder if he’s not sick from the Byetta, but with the stomach bug that ds had the other day? Oh I hope that I don’t get it!
I went to the DePaul Health Center website and copied off their Seminar information; one of their requirements before surgery is that you attend a seminar. There is one on Feburary 6th, being held in St. Louis with Dr. de la Torre leading it. I would LOVE to meet him. Maybe I could twist his arm and force him to operate on me LOL
Anyway, this morning I have a meeting with our parish Priest…..we had a discussion on Monday night at the PCCW meeting and someone brought up the topic of asking our families to pay for the meat at their loved one’s funeral. Me, I don’t like the idea. If I have to bury a loved one, the last thing I have on my mind is spending money on food. My mom said she would donate funds for food; my dh when I asked him, he said that he wouldn’t think of it. One of our other parishes in the region asks the family to order the meat, pay for it and deliver it to the church for the meal. I just don’t like it. It’s in our by-laws that the PCCW provides the meat…..we’d have to change our by-laws, which is no big deal. But I don’t feel comfortable asking for money, period, much less from a grieving family.
What do you think?
So I’m at the library this morning waiting for it to be closer to 10 am, so that I can go see the Priest. My fingers are freezing, it’s cold in here. After my 10 am meeting, I’m meeting a couple of the PCCW ladies so that we can go over the Handbook for 2008. We are switching groups around and adding the new ladies who are joining our church this year. Then we need to get the Handbooks printed and mailed out with requests for dues. We finally raised them after 25 years LOL Now the dues are $10 instead of $5 which will help.
Supper tonight will be “Raspberry Porkchops” and buttered potatoes and veggies. Yummy!
Tomorrow ds has a basketball game at 11:30.
I hope that dh is feeling better.
My little one is sick with a tummy ache and a headache; he’s planted in front of the television. We left for school and weren’t even out of the driveway when he started complaining about his stomach. I told him to try and manage an hour and see how he felt, that I would be just a phone call away. He made me laugh, he said, “Grammy lives closer to school than we do and can get me faster, I’ll have Mary call her.” He’d rather go down Grammy’s than go home!
Anyway, he seemed okay so we drove onto school but by the time we arrived at the building, he burst into tears and said it hurt so much, so I just brought him back home. I tucked him into bed for a couple of hours and he rested a bit. Now he gets a bit of television time but after while, it’ll be back to bed for him. He said he was hungry so I fixed him some Ramen noodles, but he barely ate.
It has been a busy week. On Sunday we (the PCCW) fed between 130-140 people for the funeral dinner. On Monday we (our church) sponsored the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks blood drive at our church; we had over 40 people show up! Yay!
Today I was going to go grocery shopping. I’ve got a menu planned for the entire remaining month of January and have a list based on that menu. It’ll be a DOOZY of a bill when I’m done, but then I shouldn’t have to go back to the store except for things like bread and milk and fresh veggies and fruits.
I may try to go to the store tonight after dinner. Yum! I fixed a pot of ham and bean soup yesterday and it made the house smell wonderful. We didn’t eat it yesterday, we went out to Mazzio’s, so the soup will be really really good today since it’s had a day for the flavors to mingle!
I haven’t heard yet from the Missouri Bariatrics….every day I wonder if TODAY will be the day. When I spoke with Amy in December, she said it MIGHT be that I’ll hear from them this month. I’ll wait until February 1st, then I’ll call again. I’m so anxious. The bad news is that the 18 pounds I’ve lost…..I’ve gained some back…..grrrrrr! I need to get back to Curves and back to eating less. It feels as if I’ve been eating less but obviously I’m NOT.
Our American Diabetes Association School Walk is coming up…..silly me sent out a memo with a sponsor envelope to all the parents and put the wrong date for the Walk! The school principal just called me to say that she told me it ought to be on January 28! Not January 29! What a ditz I am. Anyway that’s the way my brain works sometimes…..there’s just too much junk going on upstairs for it to process and mistakes happen. Thankfully, the school secretary will put the correct date in the weekly newsletter and people should call me when questions.
Would you believe me if I told you that my dh FIBBED to me when he told me that everything was ALL CLEAR on Monday night at 10:00 pm?
Barry and Lawrence Counties were in tornado warnings ALL NIGHT until 5:00 am. We could have blown away! I was very upset, needless to say. He didn’t apologize, just said that at 10:00 pm, he was too tired to stay up and listen to anymore reports. WHAT?!? If he had called me out of bed, I would have stayed up and listened or better yet, taken my child and gone to sleep in the basement.
This morning I heard on the radio that the National Weather Service has determined so far that a total of 22 tornadoes zipped through the Ozarks. My lovely dh told me that he found out that one hit 1/4 mile from our home. Driving ds to school on Wednesday, I saw where it hit, plus we discovered a dead cow (with its head detached and missing its skin). EEEEWWWW!
I hate living in tornado alley! And this was a freaking January storm, just wait until spring when they are SUPPOSED to be coming around.
Okay, onto better and not to gross and scary stuff………….I’ve been busy preparing for a funeral dinner on Sunday. Our PCCW meeting was supposed to have been on the night of the tornadoes. Monday is the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks blood drive at our church. Since it’s at our church, we are in charge of cookies, and since we didn’t have our meeting, I had to call ladies to see who would work and would bring cookies. Let’s see, what else have I been doing? OH, this past Wednesday, I went to a meeting at church to learn how to be a Eucharistic Minister (one who gives out Communion).
So it has been a busy week and next week promises to be as busy although God willing there will be NO tornadoes.
I’m almost finished with my Christmas shopping!
I’ve ordered BOOKS for Daniel, a HARRY & DAVID BASKET for my brother and SIL in Michigan, a new ROBE for my mom………and next week I can pick up the rest of what I’ve ordered for my Mom and dh!
Sheesh! It’s FUN but exhausting.
This past Saturday night was our BRANSON afternoon/evening Christmas Party. We got to ride the charter bus down at 1:00 pm and didn’t get home until almost midnight. I was so tired yesterday (Sunday) morning!
And then Sunday afternoon was our PCCW Installation of 2008 Officers/Christmas Party.
Sheesh! More fun!
And now the weather is NASTY – beyond NASTY. I keep waiting for ds’s school to call and tell us to come get the children. It’s icy and cold and wet and just plain NASTY!
My fingers are freezing down here LOL Maybe I ought to just type faster? LOL
Anyhow, I am getting hungry for some lunch.
Hasta La Vista!!!
It’s Friday morning, I’m great, and how are you?
I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve been sleeping with my Cpap machine very regularly now and can definitely tell the difference from when I do not sleep with it. Darned machine! I will be glad when I don’t need it because the mask bothers me – I can’t sleep on my side. But it helps me, so for now, I’m stuck with it.
Do you like the new avatar? Very cute! I love going to Cool Buddy and finding new ones. They’re very cute and they’re free: exactly my price! LOL
For my lunch today I’m having a Totino’s pizza (hamburger). Tonight for dinner I’m fixing ribeye steaks and buttered potatoes and a veg. Tomorrow’s dinner will be pork chops, mac and cheese and a veg. Sunday night will be the dinner for the Priests after the Penance Service and we ladies will eat in the kitchen after the Priests are finished. My dh and ds get to go out for dinner, their choice of anywhere in town.
It’s a nice day outdoors. Not too cold. Thankfully the wind has died down, it was crazy on Wednesday.
Okay, off to Amity Mama to get caught up.
