5 Minute Friday: Small

5-minute-friday-1

It’s Friday – my favorite day of the week.  Come join in the fun at Lisa Jo Baker’s blog, Tales of a Gypsy Mama.  Each week, she gives us a word prompt and we have five minutes to brainstorm and write with no editing.  Just go with the flow, let ‘er rip, sharing feelings and thoughts.  For more info, check out her 5 Minute Friday page.

This week’s word prompt is:  small

GO:

I remember seeing the ultrasound machine for the first time; seeing the tiny form on the screen.  We never believed that we would be blessed with a child and here we were, after 11 years of marriage, expecting our first baby.

I called the baby “Bean” which upset my mom because she said it reminded her of Mr. Bean, the British comedian.  My husband didn’t want to know the sex of the baby but I did.  I had to know who this was that I was carrying around.

It’s amazing how something so small, created from part of me and part of my husband and molded with God’s hands could turn into a real, living human being.

And now my small “Bean” is 14 years old.  He started high school on Tuesday.  Didn’t he just start kindergarten last year?  How did this happen?  My little one is taller than me now.

God does incredible things with the smallest of things.  My son is a perfect example of that.

We all are.  All of us start out small and He, in His infinite Glory can turn us into more than we ever dreamed was possible.  I started out small; felt small and unimportant for much of my life.  There was pain in my heart that I couldn’t identify for many years:  depression, bipolar disorder (which I self-medicated by drinking).  Once I hit my bottom and allowed God to heal me, miracles began.

Just like the miracle of conception and birth:  I was born again.  Sober.  Sane.  Loving my Lord.  Finding a husband when I least expected it.  Finding love.  Now that’s a miracle!

Every day starts out small.  There’s just a whisper in my mind when I awaken and then I thank God for another day, another chance to do His will, to do everything to honor Him.  Loving God, loving my husband and my teen.

Thank you, God, for taking this small person and giving me everything I need to get through the day 🙂

STOP!

  4. Dear Patty
How I wish our little “Beans” would stay small just for a little while longer! Mine are both university students now and I still want to mommy them. I am so grateful our Pappa saved you form the lie of inferiority!
    Blessings XX
    Mia

    • Thank you, Mia, for your sweet words. Yes, these “Beans” grow up too quickly – university students for you! Oh, my! High school is scary enough for me to think about – can I go to college with him? LOL

      Patty
