Monday Morning

I am feeling well today.  Yesterday was a good day.  I got a nice long nap while dh mowed and ds watched television.  The cats…who knows where they were?  They let me nap too.  I had no idea that three cats would be so noisy LOL

Was all set to take myself and ds to the pharmacy and library when I realized I didn’t have my KEYS.  I loaned them to my friend so that she could check up on the cats and when we saw her after church yesterday, I forgot to ask for them.  She was drinking her first cup of coffee when I called her, but eventually will be over with my keys.  I haven’t driven since before surgery.  I’m off my pain pills, should be fine.

Had my morning sugar free JELLO and juice (50/50 with water) and my pills.

Ready for the day!

Saturday Afternoon…

…and everything is just fine!

I tried to take a nap earlier but my son and the kitten were too busy bouncing around the living room for me to snooze.  Oh well.  I didn’t sleep well last night but it wasn’t because of surgery after effects…it was the darned weather.  Our weather alert radio went off at least 10 times during the night and early morning.  Thunderstorms and there was a tornado about an hour and a half north of here…

Anyway, I just wanted to update that things are good.  Still sipping and sipping, as prescribed by the doc.  My hand isn’t so swollen, so that’s good – I can type fast again LOL

Off to see what’s new around the internet.

Hasta la vista!

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggidy Jig!

June 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment
Hello, I’m back!

It’s hard to type because my right hand is swollen twice its normal size.  They gave me an IV on Monday morning and by Tuesday at 2 am, it was a mess and they had to pull it and give me another one……long story.

Anyway, sorry I couldn’t update myself any sooner.  I just made it downstairs LOL

Surgery is over and done with!  I did great on Monday, in fact within hours, I was up and walking.  Took three separate walks that night and was doing so well the docs thought I could go home on Wednesday, but things took a turn on Tuesday (same time that the IV was bugging me so badly).  I got a FEVER and threw up and was shaky and so so scared.  My nurse totally SUCKED that night – I will never forget JESSICA and have to warn you, if you ever have to go to University Hospital and stay on 4W and get her, ask for another nurse.  I was totally messed up, standing in the bathroom bawling my head off and she hands me a cold washcloth to clean up with and walks away.  I wanted to scream but didn’t have the energy.

All the other nurses and techs at University Hospital were absolutely wonderful and I wanted to bring home one of them for homecare LOL but he said he couldn’t leave Columbia – thanks TRAVIS for being so incredibly caring.  A one of a kind tech!

I never actually met my surgeon while I was awake…neither did hubby.  We met tons of other surgeons that work for him, though, and they were all super to me and hubby.

So anyhow, we had the scary fever and throwing up night and they decided to keep me until yesterday; we checked out around 11 am.

The drive home was long and I got a double-dose of my tylenol and that helped.  Except for the nightmare it gave me last night (I have an aversion to tylenol w/codeine).  Luckily my hubby and son were still awake and came upstairs to calm me down, so that I could go back to sleep.  No more tylenol and codeine, thank you very much.

I’ve been sipping my diluted grape juice (50/50 with water) and my broths….and my sugar free jello.  Luckily everything is staying down where it needs to be.

I weighed myself this morning:  216!  I still feel a bit swollen in my tummy and my boobs are shrinking, though LOL

It’s still hard to believe that it’s OVER and I’m on THE OTHER SIDE – the loser’s side.  I’ve been really emotional, crying at the drop of a hat and laughing hurts (reminds me of after delivering Daniel 9 years ago, my stitches killed me whenever I laughed)!  My period started while I was in the hospital, which is fine, and is probably one of the reasons I’m so emotional.

Anyhow, I’m just rambling on and on.  We go back next week to get my little drain out and my staples pulled.  Gee I am gonna miss my little hanging drain LOL

Thank you ALL for everything, especially LOIS (and the boys)

for the beautiful flowers and letting me call and whine at you!

God is good!

Here We Are!

June 22, 2008 at 7:26 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

We got to Columbia and stopped at our hotel….then we went out for Chinese.  I had wonton soup, ds had chicken strips and hubby had shrimp egg fu young.  He gave me a bite and it was wonderfully good!

We have a wakeup call for 5:30 in the morning.  Yowza!  The guys have plans to stop by Panera Bread for bagels, coffee and hot cocoa before going to the hospital with me.  I don’t like coffee but I love bagels and cocoa.  Oh well.  It will all be worth it, I just keep reminding myself.

Okay, that’s it for now….I’ll report back in tomorrow.

The sun will come out TOMORROW!

June 21, 2008 at 12:01 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Tomorrow we leave for COLUMBIA!  I can’t wait.  Tonight I won’t be sleeping with my CPAP machine so it will be dry to pack in the morning, I hope I will be able to sleep without it,,,,,,I probably won’t sleep at all anyway!  LOL

I’m finishing up some laundry for the guys.  Daniel packed his own suitcase this morning and I’m glad I doublechecked it.  He packed:

1.  one pair of underwear
2.  two pairs of shorts
3.  two shirts
4.  three pairs of socks
5.  his toothbrush, toothpaste and floss (eh, what are you gonna brush with tonight and in the morning?)

Um, then I asked him if he realized we’d be there for maybe four days and he said he could wear his underwear over and over and I said, “No way!” and he had forgotten his swimsuit, too, so I had to re-pack him LOL

Hubby will be easier to pack; he just lets me do it for him.  I need to only find out which swimsuit he wants; he owns about four (from our sailing days).

Speaking of hubby, he’s out finishing up the mowing.  I hope it doesn’t rain while we’re gone otherwise he’ll come home to a yard that needs it again and I don’t want him worrying about it…..I’d rather he focus on me LOL  Aren’t I egocentric?  LMAO

Anyhow, tomorrow we have Mass at 10 am, then brunch (I’ll get milky oatmeal, that’s as liquid as I get) and then we hit the road.  Hubby will bring his laptop (I don’t remember seeing it yesterday but I hope he remembered it) so I ought to be able to update from the hospital Monday or Tuesday.  He also has Lois’s (

) phone number so she can update you before me.

Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes!  See you on the OTHER SIDE!!

How Many More Days?!?

June 20, 2008 at 9:01 am | Posted in Cats, Hair Color, Hair Cut, Liquid Diet, Supper, Uncategorized | Leave a comment

OMG, it’s almost MONDAY!  Can you believe that it’s almost here?  I wrote a check (yes, I’m one of those obnoxious people who still writes checks; it’s a long story LOL)  at Walmart and had to date it 6/20/08 and almost FREAKED!  YAY!  I’m so excited!

Last night for dinner, I made spaghetti and sausage.  Used whole wheat pasta and the guys devoured it.  I wanted some so badly……..so I stole ONE bite.

Our new Striper is adapting wonderfully.  Last night he was attacking our middle cat, Smokey LMAO!  He would prance sideways, with his back arched and bat at her!  He is SO tiny and she is HUGE compared to him and yet she was backing away from him as if she were afraid!  And Boots, our older Siamese, she won’t have anything to do with Stripey…..she just growls at him and then stalks away.  It will take her longer to fall for him.

We are at the local library again.  I’ve got four books at home already checked out to read and so checked out four more today.  I’ll keep them at home for post-surgery.  In my closet, I’ve got a bunch of paperbacks I’ve been buying for $5 at Walmart over the past few months; from that selection, I’ll grab a few to take with me, just in case I feel like reading after surgery.  And yesterday I got myself a handheld Solitaire game for the same reason.  I know I’ll be walking the halls a lot in order to get out of the hospital, but still, there will be time to sit and just sit LOL

I need to check on my mom today; she hasn’t been feeling good and I don’t feel good leaving town knowing this.  She complains a LOT but lately she’s had a new host of complaints.  I’ve already called our family doc, but she can’t see her today.  Dr. P is just too busy and it’s Friday and she’s the only doc in the office.  So, after we leave her, Daniel and I will check in on her.

I need to also take pics of my dear sweet boy!  Yesterday we both went in for haircuts and mine is shorter and curlier (naturally, of course!) and he has a MOHAWK!  I swore the other day that I would never let him have such a thing, but while we were at Melissa’s he asked and begged and I swear I cannot tell that child “NO” so he got it.  And then he asked if he could have Melissa color it BLUE!  Ack!  This time the word “NO!” came swiftly and promptly LOL

Okay, off to my Friends’ Page!

OUCH!

June 18, 2008 at 9:45 am | Posted in Broken Toe, Free Kittens!, Uncategorized | Leave a comment
I think I broke my TOE!  It’s purple and swollen and it HURTS!

Yesterday morning as I was flying out of bed to answer the phone, I bashed it against a hard plastic laundry basket that was sitting next to the bed.  Don’t ask me how I smashed just ONE toe and not all of them LOL but I did!

I can barely walk today and it hurts so bad.  I have a call into our family doc to see if she’ll see me and tell me if it’s broken or not.  I don’t know what she can DO to fix it, though, but hubby said to call her.

GOOD NEWS!
Great news, actually, we have FIVE DAYS until surgery!
MORE great news:  we have a new addition to our family!
It’s a BOY!
He is 6 weeks old, gray with dark gray stripes and deep gray eyes.  He doesn’t weigh very much yet but he’s oh-SO-adorable and Daniel named him STRIPER.  His nickname is Stripey.
They were giving away Free Kittens at Walmart yesterday and Daniel fell in love.  He has promised to clean the cat boxes 3x a week and pay for any and all vet needs out of his own allowance for Striper.
I tried taking pics last night but this kitten is too darned fast LOL
Precious precious precious!  I will keep trying to take pics, I promise.
Meow!  Now we have THREE cats, which hubby is telling me is MORE than enough ^..^
